Highly Integrated OC-12/STM-4 Ethernet over SONET/SDH Mapper (TXC-04212)

Summary

The EtherMap®-12 is a highly integrated OC-12 mapper for carrying Ethernet traffic over SONET/SDH networks utilizing Virtual Concatenation (VCAT). It is a robust addition to TranSwitch’s industry-leading family of EoS products which includes EtherMap®-3 and EtherMap®-48. EtherMap®-12 supports OC-12/STM-4 rates using a parallel telecom bus operating at 77.76 MHz. The device supports up to eight 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports using SMII or a single Gigabit (1000 Mbps) Ethernet port using GMII. EtherMap®-12 provides complete high and low-order path overhead generation and processing.

Working seamlessly with the PHAST®-12N framer and the VTXPTM-12 VT/TU Processor and Cross Connect, EtherMap®-12 enables carriers to offer expanded EoS services at the metro edge. The mapper contains integrated MACs that process Ethernet frames, while external SDRAM may be utilized for buffering. Full/half-duplex flow control and support for over-subscription is provided. Independent Ethernet streams are encapsulated via LAPS, GFP (null and linear mode), PPP/BCP, transparent HDLC, or LAPF link layer protocols. Frames can be mapped using low/high-order pre-selected SONET/SDH containers and transported. Using virtual port mode for GMII, multiple Ethernet flow may be transported over multiple virtual containers with varying rates above or below 100MB. Bandwidth may also be increased or decreased using Link Capacity Adjust Scheme (LCAS) protocol.
